If you wake up with a heavy heart, live your day with a sunken feeling, and end it with that tired thought of just living, please read this.
There are simple ways to practice gratitude that can change how you see your own life. The same thing that feels heavy starts to feel like happiness.
Because some qualities develops your attitude and qualities as an individual. These qualities aren’t your ultimate definitions but enhances your state of equilibrium.
We will talk about what the gratitude and mindfulness mean and how to practice them in your daily life.
Gratitude is empathy dressed as thankfulness to every thing that defines you (a feature of your heart).
Mindfulness is the mental aspect which makes you an aware individual.
In a way, gratitude comes from being mindful.
These qualities are skills that you can train yourself to acquire. These skills help you to see things from a neutral perspective by taking you out of the equation.
Let’s explore some of the ways to inculcate them in our regular lifestyle.
Journaling is one of the best gratitude practice examples
The most basic way is to maintain journals where you define your day and thank all individuals who helped you in any way.
It starts right from the universe and travels through your family, peers, etc. and ends back at your own self.
The universe provides you with all basic amenities like air, water, etc. to be grateful about it. Your family and peers are there to help you out in different ways in your life.
The important aspect is to have gratitude even in adversities in a way that it doesn’t become toxic positivity.
Then coming back to your own self, it was eventually you who made sure that you did your stuff and got it right. To be mindful about each thing of your day to thank will help you offload things from your mind and provide peace.
Informal Meditation is one of the most simple ways to practice gratitude
You don’t necessarily need to journal everything about your life.
You can start off with just being mindful about your day.
Notice things around you. Be present in a moment to be grateful.
Like when you see a sunrise or sunset, when you eat something, after waking up in the morning, etc. You can just start it without having to maintain anything.
Even if you miss it someday, you can start it over. Slowly, it will grow into a habit.
Gratitude outreach helps especially when you feel depressed
You can talk to people with a sense of gratitude too. One of the most simple ways to practice gratitude.
Being courteous and thankful to people is a way of expression.
You can send a message or call to them to thank them about something.
In case you are wondering the difference between this and journaling, a journal is for self-expression when you don’t want to show yourself much.
Mindfulness through roadblock is a must follow gratitude activities for adults
It is relatively easy to practice mindfulness when things are smooth.
During frustration or angst, there comes a different feeling to deal with. The key is to feel it deeply but not react according to it.
This might feel like toxic positivity to not let things out. But it is not about not letting things out. The pause is just so that you can rethink better and let your thoughts out in a better way where you respond rather than react.
After that pause, if you still feel that you want to let it out, there is no stopping it.
This is about being mindful of what you say and how you say so that you can let your things out while also respecting the other person as an individual.
Faking till you make it (or maybe faith-ing till you make it)
This is something that is not exactly a unique practice that you can count as simple ways to practice gratitude.
These qualities might not be imbibed within naturally. And there should not be a ‘reward’ mentality attached to it.
These are qualities that help you channelize better but these are not your ultimate definition.
If you want to practice after all this, another important thing to understand is that you might NEVER get your results.
There is no perfect technique to master gratitude, yet the hope should be to make it a reflex of yours; not something that you think and do.
So, the best way is to fake all techniques that you can try with a belief that you will reach there.
You can naturally break character very often and people will judge you for it. You don’t have to beat yourself out till guilt becomes a reflex for you.
Be grateful about the literal fact that you are being given a chance to make a difference.
You are sufficiently ‘mindful’ of the fact that you can be better and that you can always learn more.
Many might not be that fortunate to reach that state too (It isn’t about judging them either because you don’t know how life is for everyone.)
There are many other ways but there is no one-size-fits all technique. You don’t have to maintain any kind of streak or continuation if you can’t commit.
You can perfectly try whenever you are mindful about practicing it. Slowly but steadily, you will definitely make a difference and that’s what we all are here for!
