What is Personal Wellbeing and Why Should You Care?

Personal Wellbeing

Personal wellbeing is one tool that can make you excel in all fields of life. In the hustle and bustle of your daily routine, tight deadlines, family drama, personal issues, relation troubles, and so much more, does living make sense if you are not making the best out of it? Once you understand the wellbeing definition, you will know that developing your valuable asset is important and can do wonders in making you live your life to the core.

What is meant by personal wellbeing?

Personal wellbeing means taking care of your betterment in all aspects of your personal life. If you want to improve, every aspect you would be stepping up in comes into your personal wellbeing. Like the pillars of self care, which you can read here (7 pillars of self care), we have 4 main pillars and three supportive ones, all of which add to your personal wellbeing.

  • Physical: When you take care of yourself- eat healthy, exercise daily, and get sufficient rest, you take care of your physical wellbeing.
  • Mental: When you know how to keep yourself away from stress, seek added help like self care coaching to bring your mind to new insights in life, you take care of your mental wellbeing.
  • Emotional: When you start considering your feelings, try to understand their depth, and know how to self care for your emotional needs, you take care of your emotional wellbeing.
  • Social: When you focus on building strong connections, grow a supportive network, and build genuine human pillars around you, they help you get better everyday.

Why is personal wellbeing important?

Everyone is living their life. Every human is alive, breathing and walking forward. Each and every individual is exploring life in some or the other way. But how many percent of them are satisfied with their existence? With their working. With their living.

How many people are not just breathing for the sake of it but to live better than they can?

Understanding personal wellbeing definition, knowing some wellbeing examples, and incorporating them into your life can change the essence of your life. And it can only be possible when you have a wellness life coach to guide you through it, to make you realize what key elements are you missing out on in your life.

Why is wellbeing important in health and social care?

As per a report from the United Nations, “In the past decade, improvements in health and health care led to a 24 percent increase in income growth in some of the poorest countries.”

So working on your health wellbeing and taking care of it can lead to your mental peace because the basic struggles because of health and wealth dissipate. Similarly, your physical and emotional wellbeing improves as you spend more time on yourself and understand life better.

Everything is correlated. For example, when you take care of your physical wellbeing – you exercise, eat good food, walk in nature – your health wellbeing gets a boost. Staying stress-free, not minding small things, being free of thought chains that keep you locked, going for a self care coaching program to understand life better, and keeping your mental wellbeing in check – helps you stay happy – boosting your health wellbeing overall. Similarly, your improvement in emotional aspects ensures that your health is improving to its best.

Hence personal wellbeing impacts your health and ultimately your social wellbeing because when you are a jolly person, you seem to attract the similar kind.

5 Factors that Add to Your Personal Wellbeing

  1. Maintaining good physical health. Cutting out unhealthy habits that restrict your growth. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins and serotonin that improve your mood and mindset, not to forget strengthening your muscles. One step is helping you in improving your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
  2. Sleeping enough. I find 6 hours or 8 hours a myth. If I were your self care coach I would help you communicate with your body. When you are able to listen to your body, you will realize bodies have their own cycle and you should sleep enough as per that demand.
  3. Doing activities you love. Amidst your busy schedule, taking out time for the work you love shows how much you care for your likes, opinions, and beliefs. How much you care for self. When you know how to balance it right, you get a reason to live your life. You understand your personal wellbeing includes enjoying the little things rather than achieving big targets.
  4. Maintaining a positive mindset. Looking at a bigger perspective in your life. This helps in getting out of complex situations easily as you know the bigger picture of those challenges and they seem small from that vision. You start spending time with people who bring the best out of your than gossiping with your circle and counting it as a genuine bond.
  5. Appreciating every day. You get to decide how you have to spend the day. The external factors might not be in your hand. For eg, if you wanted to go for a picnic and it starts raining, it is not in your hands, but what you do after that is in yours. You curse the rain, stay at home, and feel irritated about being deprived of such a good day, or you pack your swimsuit and go to a water park with the same food preparation that you did for your picnic.

5 factors affecting personal well being

  1. Stressing out on things that do not work as per your plan. No matter how small or big of a desire it is, you have to realize that stressing out won’t make that situation any better.
  2. Believe that material things here bring you happiness. Or get happy or sad with the materialistic things, gifts, or money coming in or going out of your life.
  3. Chasing an external goal at the cost of your internal peace. You wish to be the richest person and care for your family and for that, you do not find time to spare for them. All you would be doing is working hard to buy them their happiness which again brings you to the belief in material things.
  4. Finding wrong in people. When your eyes turn into a mistake picker, your viewpoint hunts for all the criticism in life. And that my friend is you shooting down your personal wellbeing yourself.
  5. Prioritizing. While it is important and everyone has to practice it at some point in their life, one has to understand the difference between doing it because they have to and because they want to. In short, this is a great tool but only if chosen wisely.
