What is Self Care and Why is it so Important for Your Life?

Self-care is caring for oneself. I know your reaction would be ‘wowww! (in a sarcastic sound)’ but most of us miss out on understanding that there’s so much more to it. Five years back, even I was the same. I knew how to take care of myself. And I thought I already was practicing self-care in my day-to-day life. Who knew becoming a self-care life coach would make me realize the importance of understanding what self-care is. And here’s why I want to share this with you. After reading this, I hope you know the actual meaning of self-care and why is it so important.

Is self-care a theory?

What isn’t just a theory until put into practice? Self-care theory is a practice of activities, if performed, helps an individual to maintain their life, health, and well-being. And once put into practice, one can live a life as dreamt. There are three major aspects to achieve growth in self care. They are:

  1. Universal aspect: Self care practices that are applicable to all fields of life helps in maintaining the human structure – both mentally and physically. It makes sure that your self care practices include everything necessary in living a balanced life, from enough air, water, and food intake, to maintaining a balance between work and rest on an every day basis.
  2. Developmental aspect: When you work on things that help you develop yourself in different aspects of life, let’s say, you find a new job, start living in a new place, shift away from your family, or any other situation that is going to shape your life better. They call for a dedicated self care attention for you to handle the difficulties of these situations in a simpler way.
  3. Health related aspect: Let’s accept the fact that human body can only depreciate. The more you use it the more it is losing its quality. And the most challenging part is that you cannot save this loss by using it a little less. So all you can do is reduce the rate of the quality of your body loss. And that is only possible if you take care of your body and self in a right way. These steps could include as simple tasks as taking time out for exercising and yoga or as mindful as taking any prescribed medicines on time.

Syncing all these self care requirements while also balancing your personal and professional life is possible. And with a self care coach, you can do it more efficiently. But first let’s discuss why should we make these self care goals!

Why should one make self-care goals?

Every house ever built needs pillars to stand strong. Those pillars might not be enough but nothing can exist without them. Self-care, in simple terms, could be caring for oneself in respect to all these pillars. It’s like understanding the right location (WHAT aspects of life should self-care be at), basing the pillars (HOW to implicate self-care in our lives), and then constructing walls around it, linking the pillars, and creating one strong home (understanding WHY self-care is important for your life).

So how do we go about it?

I am here to show you the WHAT. Make you understand life is much more than we know of, and all those aspects need equal attention, love, and care.
